NYSMTBS Update: New Category & Discounts for Juniors!

We mentioned this in January but we just want to make sure y’all know that, due to popular demand, we are adding a 60+ Open Men’s category for the 2014 season. They will be racing the Cat 2 distance, and starting with the Cat 2 wave.

We, at NYSMTBS, recognize that youth racing is the future of the sport. To that end, we are now discounting entry fees by $5 for junior racers ages 12 – 18 for all the NYS Series races. We hope to see lots of NICA racers showing up to throw down all summer long.

Big Changes coming to NYSMTB Series for 2014!

After a very long winter, we at the NYSMTB Series can’t wait to welcome you back to the races on June 6th at Williams Lake. While the rest of you were diligently braving the cold on your off-season training rides (or hiding under a pile of pizza boxes, binging on Law and Order reruns), the NYSMTBS elves have been busy looking for ways to up our game.

For starters, the NYSMTB Series will be run independently of USA Cycling this year. For us, this just means we will have more energy and resources to pour into our events, and an opportunity to give you a bigger bang for your buck. For the racers, it means saving some dough! With the exception of the Windham race (because it is connected to the World Cup), you will no longer need an annual or one-day USA Cycling license to compete at our events.

We are also excited to announce that all of our events will be scored with a new disposable-chip timing system. This will mean faster, more accurate results at the finish line, and faster results posting on our revamped website. We will also be posting current tallies of series points rankings on the website throughout the season.

We have more news goodies coming down the pike soon, so stay tuned and we’ll see you at Williams Lake. Keep the rubber side down, y’all!

2014 Race Schedule is up!

The 2014 NYSMTB race schedule is finalized! Dates are posted on this site and on our facebook page. Stay tuned for more details as we update the look and feel of our site.

Congratulations Series Winners!

Congratulations to Ben Williams and Bryna Blanchard! They are the male and female winners of the Pro category. Congratulations goes out to all of the other classes series winners as well! You guys did great and we really appreciate you racing in our series. Here is a sample of what people were saying about the finals…

“Wanted to send out a quick thanks to you and everyone else involved with the race yesterday. Course was awesome, awesome, awesome and the venue overall was probably the best time I’ve had on the bike in years – no kidding.

I’ve done mostly road racing in the past, and just got back into MTB this season after many years away from the sport. I had forgotten just how enjoyable this all was. You folks really put a lot into this event, between the course, the kid’s race, the MC, etc. , and the series overall. Thanks again, and really looking coming back again next season.”

“Thanks for a great race!  Made the trip up from the Jersey Shore for this race, stayed at the resort to give some money to the venue and had a blast on the course.
First time there and your course was fantastic.”

Stay tuned for some more racing footage put together from the Thunder Brigade!

Thanks everyone!

Riedlbauer’s Round Top Rally

Riedlbauer’s Resort in Round Top will host the final race of the New York State Championship Series, and the new champions will start their reigns on September 8th!  The course(s) will be marked and ready to ride by the afternoon of Saturday August 31. The course has been extended and the laps shortened, in order to highlight some new features and bring more exposure to the Round Top trail network.  The Cat 3 course is 3.75 miles long, while the Pro Cat 1/2 course is now 5.2 miles long. There will be beers and brats served trackside, real bathrooms and plenty of parking! The new map is posted under the “races” tab for Riedlbauer’s. Ride hard, have fun, and good luck!

Windham PRO XCT update

The NYSMTB series is a regional race series, but due to the fact that the Windham Pro XCT race had no provisions for separate regional racing, our race series was embedded within the Pro XCT. This is good on many levels, but it put our local Pros at a disadvantage as they don’t compete at the national level and were not likely to podium. We do not want to penalize our racers for competing in a National event. Because of this, we have decided to award fifth place points to our local Pro racers whom finished the Windham Pro XCT race and are competing in the NYSMTB series as a whole.
